“LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky Resigns, COO Dan Shapero Takes Over”

-

Ryan Roslansky has resigned as the CEO of LinkedIn after leading the professional networking platform for six years. Dan Shapero, the Chief Operating Officer, has immediately assumed the position. Roslansky joined LinkedIn in 2009 as one of the first hires by then-CEO Jeff Weiner. He worked in various roles within the company for over a decade before becoming the CEO in June 2020 during the labor market disruptions caused by the pandemic.

During his tenure, the platform saw substantial growth, increasing from 700 million members and $8 billion in annual revenue to 1.3 billion members and over $17 billion in revenue. This growth coincided with a notable transformation of LinkedIn from a job board and professional directory to a social network where executives share personal insights, career guidance, and opinions, attracting both devoted users and critics alike.

Roslansky also serves as the Executive Vice President at Microsoft, which acquired LinkedIn in 2016. In a post on the platform, he mentioned an expanded role at Microsoft, with Shapero now reporting directly to him. This transition signifies a shift in operational leadership rather than a complete departure from the company.

Shapero, who previously held the role of Chief Operating Officer at LinkedIn, now faces the challenge of leading the platform through a period of job market uncertainty, marked by a roughly 20% decrease in hiring since 2022 and ongoing concerns about the future impact of artificial intelligence on employment.
