President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman have paid tribute to the victims of the Pilkhana BDR massacre, which claimed the lives of 57 army officers, on Jatiya Shaheed Sena Dibosh. The president initiated the homage by placing a wreath at the Banani Military Graveyard in the capital at 10:00 am, followed by the prime minister.
Both the head of state and the head of government individually observed a moment of silence to honor the 57 army officers who lost their lives during the mutiny at the former Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Pilkhana on February 25-26, 2009. A minute of silence was also held to pay respects to the victims, followed by a prayer for eternal peace for the departed souls and the well-being of their families.
The event was attended by Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief of Army Staff Waker-Uz-Zaman, Chief of Naval Staff M Nazmul Hassan, and Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan. Jatiya Shaheed Sena Dibosh commemorates the tragic events of the Pilkhana massacre, where 74 individuals, including 57 army officers, lost their lives during the two-day mutiny at the Bangladesh Rifles headquarters in Dhaka in 2009.
