Nepal’s temporary administration is making progress in organizing the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for next week, marking the first such event since the deadly 2025 uprising. The government is encouraging voters in the Himalayan nation of 30 million people to participate in the elections on March 5 without any concerns.
Following recent anti-corruption demonstrations led by the youth that led to the ousting of the previous government, Nepal is now gearing up for the upcoming polls in a relatively short time frame. The unrest during the protests claimed the lives of at least 77 individuals. Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a transparent, fair, secure, and peaceful election process during a statement on Tuesday.
Expressing confidence in the election process, Prime Minister Karki urged all citizens to assert their voting rights without hesitation or intimidation. The violent incidents that occurred in September 2025 marked the most severe since the conclusion of the decade-long civil war in 2006, signifying the importance of maintaining peace and security during this critical period.
