“Dhaka South City Corporation to Plant 300,000 Trees by 2030”

-

The Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has announced plans to plant 300,000 trees over the next five years in areas under its jurisdiction, according to Administrator Md Abdus Salam. Speaking at a tree plantation event organized in collaboration with Srijoni Bangladesh in a residential area of Dhaka University, Salam emphasized the importance of tree planting as a crucial initiative. He urged for the nationwide tree plantation program led by the Prime Minister to be transformed into a widespread movement.

In line with the Prime Minister’s initiative, a comprehensive strategy has been devised to plant a total of 300,000 trees from 2026 to 2030, averaging around 60,000 trees per year. To support this endeavor, DSCC is setting up a modern nursery managed internally. Furthermore, a “Zero Soil” project, under an agreement with the Forest Department, will enable the greening of road medians and islands using grass and trees.

Emphasizing the significance of public awareness, Abdus Salam mentioned that with community involvement, half of the city corporation’s tasks could be streamlined. The remaining half, he assured, would be tackled by the authorities. He expressed optimism that by working together, the vision of a ‘Green City, Clean City’ set forth by the Prime Minister could be realized.

The event also saw the presence of DU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr ABM Obaidul Islam as a distinguished guest.
