A tragic incident unfolded in Chattogram’s Bakalia area where a two-year-old boy was allegedly killed by his father during a domestic dispute. The child’s father, Md Sajib, 24, along with the grandmother, Nur Nahar Begum, 40, has been arrested on murder charges by the police.
According to the child’s mother, Sharmin Akter, Sajib threw their son, Ashraf Bin Samir, against a wall in a violent altercation at their residence, resulting in fatal injuries to the toddler. Subsequently, the family tried to conceal the truth by falsely claiming that the child had passed away due to an illness.
The tragic event took place on the night of April 7 at Osi Mia Colony in Bakalia’s Bou Bazar area, as reported by the police. Sharmin, who works in a garment factory, returned home from work that night, leading to a confrontation with her husband.
The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Bakalia Police Station, Mohammad Solaiman, stated that during the argument between the couple, Sajib resorted to physical violence against Sharmin. Amidst the altercation, their two-year-old son, terrified by the situation, sought refuge with his mother. In a distressing turn of events, the father grabbed the child and hurled him against the wall.
The impact caused the boy to suffer an immediate seizure. Shockingly, instead of seeking medical assistance for the child, the accused continued the assault on Sharmin, rendering her unconscious, as per the OC.
Following the incident, the family deceived Sharmin’s parents by falsely claiming that she had fainted and the child had succumbed to an illness. The child was subsequently laid to rest without informing the authorities.
Upon regaining consciousness after a prolonged period, Sharmin discovered the devastating truth about her son’s demise and subsequently lodged a murder case on Wednesday night. In response to her complaint, the police took action, leading to the arrest of Sajib and his mother.
Both individuals have been formally charged in the case and presented before the court for further legal proceedings.
