Detectives apprehended a young man on Sunday evening for his suspected role in the homicide of Dipu Chandra Das, a garment worker in the Dubaliapara region of Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh. The individual in custody is identified as Md Bablu Mia, aged 24.
According to Md Abdullah Al Mamun, an additional superintendent of police in Mymensingh, initial investigations revealed that Bablu was present at the site and played a significant part in provoking the incident. Allegedly, he was instrumental in gathering a crowd at the factory entrance and inciting them with slogans. Subsequently, he actively engaged in the attack that led to Dipu’s death in front of the gate and assisted in relocating the body to Square Masterbari Main Road.
Law enforcement authorities have confirmed that efforts are underway to apprehend other individuals who are still at large and believed to be associated with the crime. The tragic event unfolded on the evening of December 18, where Dipu, aged 27, was fatally assaulted and his remains were set ablaze by a group in Bhaluka, allegedly due to accusations of “offending religious sentiments.”
Apu Chandra Das, the victim’s sibling, lodged a complaint with Bhaluka Police Station the subsequent day, implicating 140–150 unidentified individuals in the incident. Up to this point, 23 suspects have been taken into custody. Moreover, three key witnesses have provided testimony under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and 11 accused have confessed their involvement in court proceedings.
