“One Square Stories: Bangladeshi Artists Redefine Art Accessibility”

-

On February 14, 2026, Bhumi Gallery in Lalmatia unveiled “One Square Stories,” a collective exhibit featuring 20 Bangladeshi artists focusing on making art accessible. The showcase revolves around the concept of democratizing art beyond exclusive urban circles by showcasing artworks on compact one-square-foot canvases. Despite their small size and cost-effective mediums, the pieces are intricately detailed and expressively rich.

The exhibition emphasizes that art and culture should be inclusive for all individuals while acknowledging the talent and efforts of artists. Through the minimalist approach of “One Square Stories,” the exhibit aims to bridge the gap between accessibility and artistic value, offering creations that are both affordable and meticulously crafted.

At the opening ceremony, distinguished artist Professor Emeritus Rafiqun Nabi graced the event as the chief guest, with Akhter Mahmud Rana, advisor of United Group, attending as the special guest. Notable artists Professor Nisar Hossain and Mohammad Eunus, alongside Bhumi Gallery founder Saifur Rahman Lenin, delivered speeches before the exhibition commenced.

The participating artists include a diverse lineup such as Mohammad Eunus, Jamal Ahmed, Ranjit Das, Ahmed Shamsuddoha, Kanak Chanpa Chakma, Mohammad Iqbal, Mahmudur Rahman Dipon, Shaila Akhter, Azmeer Hossain, Sadek Ahmed, Kamruzzoha, Abdus Sattar Toufiq, M M Maksud Biplob, Abdullah Al Bashir, Shahid Kazi, Monjur Rashid, Nazmul Haque Bappy, Azmol, and Jayanta Mondal.

Visitors to the gallery were immediately captivated by paintings featuring shades of ultramarine. Azmeer Hossain’s distinctive bright blue artworks and Kamruzzoha’s delicate bird and nature depictions stood out. Shahid Kazi’s textured sunflowers in dry strokes adorned the opposite wall.

Jayanta Mondal’s artworks mesmerized viewers with their ethereal essence, while Sadek Ahmed’s architectural pieces evoked nostalgia. Mohammad Iqbal’s abstract creations using Japanese washi tapes provided a sense of comfort. Artists like Jamal Ahmed and Kanak Chanpa Chakma showcased rural scenes of Bangladesh, while M M Maksud Biplob depicted urban landmarks of Dhaka. Azmol Hosen’s bold brushstrokes brought the Sundarbans to life, creating a raw, photographic effect.

Ranjit Das and Shaila Akhter presented vibrant portraits, each telling a unique story. Mohammad Eunus, Mahmudur Rahman Dipon, and Abdus Sattar Toufiq conveyed diverse emotions through abstract forms. Ahmed Shamsuddoha’s hyperrealistic hibiscus flowers were notable for their meticulous detailing. Monjur Rashid, Nazmul Haque Bappy, and Kamal Uddin explored floral themes in individual styles, while Abdullah Al Bashir’s portrayal of a sparrow feeding its young within a wall niche added a tender touch.

Overall, the exhibit embodies the essence of Mies van der Rohe’s philosophy of “less is more.” Bhumi Gallery will showcase “One Square Stories” until March 14, 2026, inviting art enthusiasts to experience this unique blend of accessibility and artistic expression.
