At least 50 individuals lost their lives, and a number of women and children were taken captive following an assault on a village in Zamfara state’s northwestern region in Nigeria. According to Hamisu A. Faru, a legislator representing Bukkuyum South, the assailants launched an attack on Tungan Dutse village starting at 5:00 pm on Thursday and lasting until approximately 3:30 am on Friday. During the attack, structures were set ablaze, and residents attempting to escape were shot at.
Faru, speaking with Reuters over the phone, stated that the perpetrators have been moving between villages, resulting in a death toll of at least 50 individuals. The exact number of abducted victims remains unknown as traditional leaders and local government authorities continue to track the missing individuals.
