Bangladesh Honors Language Martyrs on Ekushey Day

On Ekushey February, Bangladesh commemorates the sacrifices of the language martyrs who bravely defended the Bengali language. This day is a tribute to their valor and a celebration of the country’s rich cultural and linguistic heritage. Television channels nationwide have scheduled special programs to honor the martyrs and emphasize the importance of the mother tongue.

BTV’s lineup includes the music program “Bhashar Gaan” at 12:30 pm featuring performances by Piyal Hasan, Sultana Chowdhury, Sabbir, Shabnam Priyanka, and others. At 9 pm, the drama “Siddhanto,” depicting the sacrifices of the language martyrs, will be aired. The play, written by Kazi Asad and produced by Mamun Mahmud, stars Masum Bashar, Kazi Asad, and Salman Arafat.

Channel i will broadcast a special episode titled “Bhasha Amar Ahankar” as part of the program “Gaan Diye Shokal Shuru” at 7:40 am. This episode includes performances by the Surbihar Creative and Performing Art Institute, led by Rabindra Sangeet artiste Anima Roy and her students, presenting 12 songs inspired by the Language Movement and Ekushey’s spirit.

RTV will air the special drama “Borno” at 8 pm, written and directed by Imraul Rafat, starring Jovan, Parsa Evana, and Shahtaz Monira Hashem.

Masranga Television’s 8 pm slot will feature the drama “Amar Bornomala,” written and directed by Simanto Sajal, with Tariq Anam Khan, Moushumi Hamid, and others in the cast.

Boishakhi Television will showcase two films today: “Alor Michil” at 10 am starring Razzak, Sujata, and Babita, and “Sipahi” at 2:20 pm featuring Manna, Ilias Kanchan, and Champa.

Duronto TV’s program “Mayer Bhasha” will air at 1:30 pm and 8 pm, presenting artistes performing choreography alongside patriotic songs and poems in voice-over, directed by Shahadat Setu. Additionally, the drama “Jhutum Pakhir Kotha” will be broadcast at 2 pm, along with the movies “Manush” at 10 am and “Pathshala” at 10 pm.
