Actor Johnny Depp reportedly extended a generous offer to his late friend Eric Dane by providing him with accommodation in one of his Los Angeles residences without any rent obligations. Dane, best known for his role in “Grey’s Anatomy,” tragically passed away at 53 after a ten-month battle with ALS, a debilitating condition that affects muscle function.
The bond between Depp and Dane, cultivated over mutual connections, prompted Depp, famous for his portrayal in “Pirates of the Caribbean,” to support Dane during his final period. Sources reveal that Depp facilitated Dane’s stay in a property above the Sunset Strip, allowing Dane to concentrate on his health without financial concerns. The arrangement involved Dane contributing as he could or nothing at all towards rent, emphasizing Depp’s desire to alleviate Dane’s financial burdens.
Dane’s demise followed his public disclosure of the ALS diagnosis less than a year ago. Despite the challenges posed by the disease, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, Dane bravely faced his circumstances. In an interview on “Good Morning America” in June 2025, Dane candidly discussed his struggle with diminishing motor functions, highlighting the progressive nature of his condition.
Eric Dane, renowned for his role as McSteamy on “Grey’s Anatomy,” captivated audiences with his portrayal of Mark Sloan in the acclaimed medical drama series created by Shonda Rhimes.
