Bangladesh Begins Ramadan Fasting Period

-

Bangladesh has officially commenced the sacred month of Ramadan as the new crescent moon was spotted yesterday evening, signaling the start of a period of fasting and spiritual reflection for Muslims globally. The National Moon Sighting Committee reached this decision during a meeting at Baitul Mukarram National Mosque, led by Religious Affairs Minister Kazi Shah Mofazzal Hossain Kaikobad. Information on the sighting of the Ramadan moon of 1447 Hijri was evaluated from various sources, including district administrations, the Islamic Foundation headquarters and its regional offices, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, and the Space Research and Remote Sensing Organisation.

Taraweeh prayers initiated last night, with the night of March 16, 2026, scheduled for the observance of Shab-e-Qadr nationwide. The meeting was attended by several officials, such as Religious Affairs Secretary Md Kamal Uddin, Director General of the Islamic Foundation Abdus Salam Khan, and other prominent figures from different organizations.

During this lunar month, Muslims are required to fast from sunrise to sunset, emphasizing self-discipline and simplicity in their daily lives.
