“Dhaka Police Temporarily Ban Trucks on Highways”

-

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has implemented a temporary suspension on specific vehicle types such as trucks, covered vans, and lorries on highways from March 17 to March 23. The decision, outlined in a recent public notice by DMP Acting Commissioner Md Sarwar, is intended to facilitate a smooth travel experience for individuals departing Dhaka before Eid-ul-Fitr. Vehicles transporting essential items like food, perishable goods, garments, medicine, fertilizer, and fuel are exempt from this directive.

Furthermore, the notice advises city vehicles to avoid certain key routes unless absolutely necessary during this period. These routes include the Dhaka–Mymensingh highway (Kuril to Abdullahpur), Dhaka–Chattogram highway (Gulistan to Signboard), Dhaka–Aricha highway, Mirpur Road (Aarong Crossing to Aminbazar), Dhaka–Keraniganj road (Fulbaria–Tatibazar–Babubazar Bridge), Dhaka–Mawa highway (Gulistan to Buriganga Bridge), Mohammadpur Bosila Crossing to Bosila Bridge, Abdullahpur to Dhaur Bridge, and Fulbaria to Sadarghat launch terminal.

Transport operators and workers have been directed to commence bus operations from terminals, refrain from overcharging passengers, drive responsibly, and ensure valid licenses and vehicle fitness. Additionally, passengers and pedestrians are urged to utilize designated terminals, secure their belongings, avoid accepting food from strangers, and utilize footbridges or zebra crossings when crossing roads.

In case of emergencies, travelers are encouraged to reach out to police control rooms at terminals or contact the national emergency service number 999, as highlighted by the DMP acting commissioner.
