Government Pledges to Safeguard Media Freedom

-

The Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Zahir Uddin Swapon, reassured that the government is committed to creating a safe environment for journalism without fear. He emphasized the importance of understanding the mental pressure individuals, especially those in professions like media, face due to constant surveillance. Swapon expressed confidence in addressing these challenges by aligning with the prime minister’s vision to ensure media freedom in Bangladesh.

During a press briefing at the Secretariat following a cabinet meeting, Swapon disclosed that the government is actively developing a framework to uphold the free flow of information and media liberty. The administration’s key agenda upon assuming office was to uphold media freedom and ensure transparent dissemination of information.

Swapon highlighted ongoing efforts to solidify the mechanisms supporting media freedom, citing the establishment of a commission during the interim government’s tenure. He mentioned engaging with the state minister and other officials to assess recommendations and formulate a practical strategy to enhance media freedom in the country.
