Punjab Kings clinched their second consecutive victory in the Indian Premier League, led by a stellar half-century from captain Shreyas Iyer, defeating Chennai Super Kings by five wickets. The match saw Chennai posting a challenging total of 209-5 after being put in to bat, with Ayush Mhatre playing a crucial role by scoring a quickfire 73 off 43 balls.
Chasing the target, Punjab Kings showcased their batting prowess by successfully reaching 210-5, marking their ninth time chasing a total exceeding 200 in the IPL. The early momentum for Chennai was set by Mhatre, who formed a solid partnership with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Despite some dropped chances, Mhatre’s aggressive batting propelled Chennai’s innings forward.
Punjab fought back with quick wickets but Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube’s contributions ensured a strong finish for Chennai. In response, Punjab’s Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh provided a solid start, with Arya’s explosive innings setting the tone. Shreyas Iyer then took charge, smashing boundaries and guiding Punjab to victory with support from Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh.
With this win, Punjab Kings moved to the top of the IPL table, while Chennai Super Kings faced their second consecutive defeat in the tournament.
