Amidst these developments, the United States military was reportedly on standby for a potential strike on Iran, pending a final decision from President Trump. The UN nuclear watchdog chief acknowledged progress in the recent talks between Iran and the United States but emphasized the urgency of finding a solution promptly.
A senior US official disclosed that Iran was expected to present a written proposal to address the standoff with the United States following the negotiations in Geneva. Additionally, US national security advisers convened at the White House to ensure that all military forces in the region would be ready by mid-March.
The United States has been pushing for Iran to abandon its nuclear program, a demand that Iran has consistently rejected, asserting its pursuit of peaceful nuclear enrichment. In a separate incident, British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper condemned Iran’s sentencing of a British couple to 10 years in prison on espionage charges, vowing to continue advocating for their release. Craig and Lindsay Foreman were accused by Iran of gathering intelligence in various parts of the country.
