Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami’s leader, Shafiqur Rahman, expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of consultation with his party regarding agreements made with various countries during the interim government’s tenure. In a recent Facebook post, Rahman mentioned that despite their repeated requests for involvement in decision-making on international agreements during the absence of a parliament, the interim government did not engage with them. He emphasized that their stance on the matter is unequivocal and aims to avoid any confusion.
Following criticism, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman clarified that consent had been obtained from the major political parties, including BNP and Jamaat, before finalizing a trade agreement with the United States. Khalilur highlighted that discussions had taken place with the leaders of the two main parties before the elections, ensuring their approval. He emphasized that the process was transparent and not conducted in secrecy.
Khalilur, who previously served as the national security adviser, played a crucial role in negotiating the agreement with the United States on behalf of Bangladesh. This recent statement from Jamaat represents their official response to the issue, marking their first formal reaction.
