A woman in Panchagarh has been imprisoned for allegedly causing severe injuries to her husband, according to police officials. Identified as Sharmin Akter Sathi, aged 29, she is the spouse of Golam Mostafa, aged 35, residing in Dangapara village within the Chaklahat union of Panchagarh Sadar upazila.
The decision to remand the accused was made by Senior Judicial Magistrate Ibrahim Ali, with the presence of the accused during the court proceedings, as confirmed by Md Kabul Hossain, an assistant sub-inspector and the general register officer (GRO) of Panchagarh Sadar Court.
The incident unfolded after the victim’s father, Sujaul Haque, lodged a complaint at Panchagarh Sadar Police Station against Sathi earlier in the day. According to Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ashraful Islam of Panchagarh Sadar Police Station, Golam Mostafa was attacked after the sehri meal on Sunday. He was found injured and bleeding in his room around 6:00 am, with allegations pointing towards his wife as the perpetrator.
Upon discovering Mostafa’s condition, family members rushed him to Panchagarh Modern Sadar Hospital for initial treatment. Subsequently, he was referred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for further medical attention, where he remains under care.
The accused was detained following a court directive and sent to jail as per the order. During the initial interrogation post-arrest, she refrained from disclosing any motives behind the incident, as confirmed by the OC.
