Bengal Shilpalay has recently disclosed the results of the S M Sultan Art Conservation Project, a research-driven effort aimed at safeguarding the artistic legacy of one of Bangladesh’s esteemed modern artists. Executed by Bengal Foundation in collaboration with the US Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation (AFCP), the project concentrated on exploring and conserving S M Sultan’s artworks. It integrated art-historical analysis to devise sustainable restoration methods in line with Sultan’s unique artistic vision.
A significant aspect of the project involved educating emerging Bangladeshi art conservators to enhance local conservation capabilities. The conservation discoveries were officially unveiled at the Sultan Art Conservation Studio by Bengal Foundation representatives, including Chair Abul Khair, Director General and Trustee Luva Nahid Choudhury, and Director Ataur Rahman.
US Ambassador Christensen paid a visit to the site to receive an overview of the accomplished project. Subsequently, he toured the Quamrul Hassan Exhibition Hall, where a selection of pieces from the Bengal Foundation Collection were showcased, and explored Bengal Boi to familiarize himself with the foundation’s initiatives in publishing, music, and crafts.
