Three members of Manikganj district Detective Branch (DB) of police, including a sub-inspector, sustained injuries during an anti-drug operation in Singair upazila on Thursday. The incident led to the arrest of nine individuals by the authorities by the end of the day.

According to Singair Police Station OC Mazharul Islam, a DB team, headed by SI Md Anwar Hossain, undertook an operation in Char Ulail village under Dhalla union on Thursday afternoon. The operation resulted in the apprehension of Md Lablu, also known as Labu Mia, aged 45, with 20 yaba pills.

While returning with Lablu, the team encountered resistance from Lablu’s relatives and locals, resulting in injuries to three team members – SI Anwar Hossain, and constables Mirza Rezaul Karim and Hasan Ali. The constables are currently receiving medical treatment, whereas the sub-inspector received initial first aid. The attackers seized Lablu during the altercation, as per the OC.

SI Anwar filed two cases at Singair Police Station the following day – one under the Narcotics Control Act against Lablu and another against 19 identified individuals and 15 to 20 unidentified persons.

The arrested individuals, including Purnima Begum, Shabana, Jahanara, Azimuddin, Aminur, Antar, Mou Akhtar, Asma Begum, and Abdur Rouf alias Jewel, are believed to have been involved in the attack based on preliminary evidence. The authorities are actively pursuing the remaining suspects, stated the OC.

The investigation officer, Md Rezaul Karim, confirmed the direct involvement of all the arrested individuals in the assault. However, relatives of the detainees claimed innocence, asserting that the actual perpetrators had escaped.

The OC mentioned that further legal actions would be initiated following the completion of the investigation.
