The latest trailer for the film “Bonolota Express,” directed by Tanim Noor and based on Humayun Ahmed’s novel ‘Kichukkhon,’ provides a glimpse into a story that unfolds during a train journey where various lives intersect.
Unveiled on social media on March 12 at 8pm, the 1-minute 21-second trailer commences at Kamalapur Railway Station before transitioning to scenes inside the Bonolota Express train. Shortly after its debut, the trailer swiftly ascended to become one of the top 10 trending videos in Bangladesh, indicating early interest from the audience.
Rather than disclosing the entire plot, the trailer introduces a diverse group of passengers on the train, each with their own unique circumstances. Among them are Dr. Ashhab, accompanying his mentally unstable mother; Chitra, a young woman setting off on a solitary expedition; Rashid Uddin, an unconventional passenger; and Education Minister Abul Khayer Khan.
In the course of the journey, these characters gradually become intertwined in an unfolding situation.
The movie boasts an extensive ensemble cast featuring Chanchal Chowdhury, Mosharraf Karim, Azmeri Haque Badhan, Zakia Bari Mamo, Sabila Nur, Intekhab Dinar, Sariful Islam Razz, Shamima Nazneen, Shamol Mawla, Tridha Paul, Maan Labonno Chowdhury, Tamim Kareem, and Sifat Rahman.
Director Tanim Noor, known for his previous work “Utshob,” which garnered attention for its ensemble storytelling, seems to adopt a similar approach in this film. Instead of focusing on a single lead character, the narrative appears to evolve through a web of interconnected characters sharing the same journey.
Much of the unfolding drama transpires within the train itself. Passengers from diverse social and personal backgrounds inhabit the same confined space — a doctor with his distressed mother, a lone female traveler, a cleric and his expectant wife, an eccentric intellectual, and a prominent minister.
As the journey progresses, a crisis within one of the compartments begins to unite these separate lives.
Humayun Ahmed’s original narrative portrays the train as a microcosm where authority, vulnerability, and compassion frequently collide within a brief timeframe. The trailer hints that the film will capture this dynamic.
Visually, the preview underscores ambiance over grandeur. Shadowy interiors, intimate interactions among passengers, and fleeting moments of tension suggest a film predominantly steered by character development and dialogue.
The screenplay and dialogues are crafted by Samiul Bhuiyan and Ayman Asib Shadin, with cinematography by Barkat Hossain Polash. Editing is overseen by Saleh Sobhan Auneem, and the musical score is composed by Sayba Talukdar.
The film is jointly produced by Hoichoi Studios, Buriganga Talkies, and Dope Productions.
While the trailer sets the stage and introduces its characters, many aspects of the plot remain undisclosed. The central conflict and the ultimate trajectory of the narrative are still shrouded in mystery.
“Bonolota Express” is slated for a nationwide theatrical release during Eid-ul-Fitr 2026.
