Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz expressed some disappointment in his team’s batting performance following a 25-run loss to Zimbabwe in the opening ODI in Harare. Despite a stellar bowling display by Nahid Rana, who recorded record-breaking figures of 6 for 21, the Tigers fell short in their chase, managing only 116 runs.
Miraz praised Nahid’s exceptional bowling effort but highlighted the missed opportunity in the batting department. Nahid’s six-wicket haul surpassed the previous best by a Bangladeshi bowler in ODI history, jointly held by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Rubel Hossain.
After Zimbabwe stumbled to 70 for eight, a crucial 63-run partnership between Richard Ngarava and Newman Nyamhuri propelled the hosts to a total of 141. However, Bangladesh’s top order struggled to counter the opposition’s bowling attack, with only Towhid Hridoy and Nurul Hasan managing to pass the 20-run mark.
Miraz acknowledged the need for improvement in restricting Zimbabwe’s lower-order batsmen from contributing significant runs and lamented the lack of substantial partnerships at the start of their innings.
Looking ahead, Miraz emphasized the importance of executing better bowling strategies and building solid partnerships early in the game to enhance Bangladesh’s chances of success in future matches.
