“Mohammadpur and Adabor Residents Demand Tighter Security Amid Crime Surge”

-

Residents in Mohammadpur and Adabor are urging for enhanced security measures following a series of criminal incidents, including an attack on factory workers over extortion and a daylight mugging captured on CCTV. The recent surge in criminal activities has sparked concerns among locals and business owners in the area.

A group reportedly assaulted employees of Abir Fashion, an embroidery factory in Adabor, on Saturday night after demanding extortion money, resulting in injuries to two individuals. In response, factory owners and workers staged a protest outside Adabor Police Station, with Mustafizur Rahman, the factory owner, filing a police report regarding the incident.

According to Rahman’s complaint, the attackers had been extorting money and robbing workers of cash and phones for some time. The assault occurred around 9:40 pm as workers were leaving the factory after receiving their wages, with the perpetrators attempting to snatch their belongings.

Law enforcement authorities have apprehended five individuals, including the main suspect Rohan Khan Russell, in connection with the attack. Additionally, the police briefly detained Russell’s father for questioning. The community demanded the arrest of all involved culprits and heightened security measures in the locality during a demonstration that lasted several hours.

Separately, CCTV footage from Basila in Mohammadpur captured a pedestrian being mugged by alleged teenage gang members in broad daylight. Locals attributed the incident to a group referred to as “Killer Badal,” causing fear among residents. Another CCTV clip from the area recorded an extortion threat targeting a local market.

In response to these incidents, Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam has instructed law enforcement officers to crack down on extortion, snatching, and drug-related crimes. He emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order and taking legal action against offenders regardless of their affiliations. The directives were issued during a virtual meeting with police officials from various units, as per a statement released by Police Headquarters.
