Gazipur: Allegations of major financial irregularities and attempts to create administrative instability have surfaced at the International Medical College and Hospital (IMCH), a private healthcare institution located in Tongi, Gazipur. Authorities have filed a General Diary (GD) with the local police station accusing two former teachers and a student of embezzling more than Tk 4.5 million and spreading defamatory information through anonymous emails. A legal notice has also been served to one of the accused former faculty members.
According to investigation and audit findings, former acting head of the Biochemistry Department, U.K. Fatema Khan Majlis, was allegedly involved in significant financial misconduct during her tenure. Following her voluntary resignation on October 20, 2025, an internal audit revealed discrepancies in the records related to the laboratory’s Maglumi 2000 Plus machine.
The audit report states that a total of 5,465 laboratory tests were conducted during her tenure without proper documentation in the official accounts. The estimated value of these tests amounts to Tk 4,538,615. In response, the college authorities sent a legal notice through lawyer Mohammad Hossain demanding the return of the alleged embezzled funds. The notice warns that both criminal and civil cases will be filed if the amount is not returned within seven days.
Authorities also claim that an organized group has been attempting to suppress the issue of financial misappropriation and damage the reputation of the institution. On February 26, 2026, an anonymous email from the address (mailto:kingkhanbank1@gmail.com) was reportedly sent to the institution’s official email accounts containing what officials described as baseless and defamatory allegations intended to create an unstable environment.
Suspicion has also been directed toward former associate professor Dr. Kajol Akter and a student, Damik Shawkat Malik. According to the complaint, Dr. Kajol had previously faced allegations of maintaining an inappropriate relationship with a Kashmiri student and of engaging in unethical activities involving students at her residence. Authorities further claim that Malik, a student from the 2018–2019 academic session, had earlier been suspended for one year due to disciplinary violations. It is alleged that he later collaborated with Dr. Kajol Akter to spread provocative posts and manipulated images on social media targeting the college administration. Notably, Dr. Kajol Akter was relieved from her position on August 9, 2025, over allegations related to such misconduct.
In response to the developments, Md. Imrul Kayes, Deputy General Manager (Admin and HR) of International Medicare Limited, filed a General Diary with Tongi West Police Station. He stated that a group is deliberately attempting to disrupt the academic and healthcare services of the college and hospital.
“We demand that those responsible be identified and brought under the law. No one involved in financial misappropriation or attempts to harm the institution will be spared,” he said.
Police from Tongi West Police Station have begun investigating the matter, while security measures at the institution have been strengthened to prevent any untoward incidents.
Earlier, a separate case was also filed in Gazipur over allegations of embezzlement of Tk 1 million and issuing death threats against Ummel Khayer Fatema Majlish, 46, a former teacher of International Medicare Limited. The case was submitted on March 2, 2026, at Gazipur Metropolitan Magistrate Court No. 4 by A.F.M. Farid, Senior Manager of the Accounts Department, on behalf of the institution.
