Four individuals, including a father and his son, were brutally murdered in an early morning assault in Borkula village within Shingasholpur Union of Narail Sadar upazila yesterday. The victims were identified as Khalil Sheikh, aged 70, his son Tahajjat Sheikh, aged 41, Ferdous Hossain, aged 40, and Osikur Fakir, aged 36.
Authorities revealed that the tragic incident took place at approximately 5:00 am and was a result of an ongoing feud and power struggles between two rival factions in the locality. Narail Superintendent of Police Mohammad Al Mamun Shikder mentioned that during the violence, around seven to eight residences were set ablaze, and six individuals sustained injuries.
Reports from law enforcement and local informants indicated a prolonged animosity between followers of former Shingasholpur Union chairman Khayruzzaman Khayer Molla and a faction led by Khalil Sheikh, which had resulted in multiple altercations in the area over the years. Following a confrontation about a decade ago, Khalil Sheikh and others from Tarapur village relocated to Borkula village, but tensions persisted.
Monjura Begum, Khalil’s wife, recounted the harrowing attack, stating that a large group of about 50 to 55 men from Tarapur village, reportedly associated with ex-chairman Khayruzzaman Khayer Molla, launched a violent assault on their home before dawn. The attackers forcibly dragged Khalil Sheikh and Tahajjat Sheikh outside, where they were fatally attacked with sharp weapons. Ferdous Hossain also fell victim to the assailants’ brutality.
In the midst of the confrontation, Osikur Fakir from the opposing group sustained severe injuries and was rushed to Narail district hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds later on. Superintendent of Police Shikder affirmed that efforts were in progress to apprehend the perpetrators, vowing that those responsible for the heinous crimes would face justice.
Oli Miah, the officer-in-charge of Narail Sadar Police Station, mentioned that steps were being taken to initiate legal proceedings regarding the tragic incident. Additional police forces have been deployed in the region, and surveillance has been heightened to prevent any further outbreaks of violence. Despite the tense atmosphere, authorities assured that the situation was being managed effectively.
