-

A committee consisting of 10 members has been established to aid in advancing, upgrading, and standardizing Bangladesh’s tea industry by implementing cohesive policy and technical measures. The formation of the committee, as stated in an official announcement, includes representatives from key government entities, regulatory bodies, and stakeholders in the tea sector with the aim of enhancing research, planning, and institutional capabilities within the industry.

The committee is led by Mamun Rashid, who serves as the convener and is the chairman of the publicly traded National Tea Company Limited, as well as the president of the business-to-business commerce platform, ShopUp. It is also composed of representatives from the Bangladesh Tea Board, officials from pertinent ministries, and experts engaged in various aspects of tea production, processing, and exportation.

Members of the committee are drawn from establishments such as the Ministry of Commerce, the Bangladesh Tea Research Institute, and other regulatory and technical organizations associated with the sector. To ensure private-sector involvement, representatives from trade and industry associations, including the Tea Traders Association of Bangladesh, have been included.

Moreover, a member secretary from the National Tea Company has been designated. The primary responsibilities of the committee encompass offering policy suggestions, devising a coherent roadmap for the sector’s sustainable growth, analyzing prevailing hurdles in the tea industry, pinpointing enhancement opportunities, and suggesting strategies to boost productivity, quality standards, and the international competitiveness of Bangladeshi tea.
