Paramount Pictures has officially set a release date for the highly anticipated movie adaptation of the popular Call of Duty video game series. The announcement was made at the recent CinemaCon event in Las Vegas.
The film is scheduled to hit theaters on June 30, 2028, with director Pete Berg at the helm and Taylor Sheridan penning the script. Berg emphasized the importance of authenticity in depicting elite soldiers, focusing on their human aspects and the grand scale of their experiences.
Call of Duty stands as one of the most successful gaming franchises, boasting a massive following of one billion players and generating a staggering $35 billion in revenue over its lifetime. The franchise, supported by Activision and now under Microsoft’s ownership, has released over 30 mainline games since its inception in 2003.
Although specific storyline details and casting information are yet to be disclosed, the agreement primarily covers a standalone movie. However, insiders suggest that there are provisions for potential expansions of the Call of Duty universe into the realm of film and television.
Paramount has a track record of successfully adapting video games for the big screen, notably with the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise.
