The Election Commission announced yesterday that the Bogura-6 by-elections and the rescheduled Sherpur-3 election will take place before April 14. Election Commissioner Abdur Rahmanel Masud stated that the commission aims to avoid the stormy weather during Pahela Baishakh by completing the polls beforehand. He expressed confidence in meeting this deadline.
Regarding the reserved seats for women, Masud mentioned that the process has already commenced, as these elections rely on parliamentary parties nominating candidates. He assured that the formal completion within 90 days of oath-taking will be ensured.
In response to queries about the timing of local government elections, Masud indicated that the ordinance has eliminated the provision for voting with party symbols in local government elections. He explained that the next steps will be determined by parliament’s decision on the bill or ordinance. The Election Commission is awaiting the outcome of the upcoming parliamentary session.
