The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority has released an updated fare schedule for buses and minibuses that operate on inter-district and long-distance routes.
Following a hike in diesel prices, the government has raised bus fares by 11 paisa per kilometer for all bus types. The new fare rates took effect on the same day of the announcement.
The revised fare chart was made available on the BRTA website over the weekend, detailing specific fares for various routes, including city and long-distance services.
In Dhaka, the minimum fare for city buses has been established at Tk 10. For instance, on the Dhaka (Sayedabad)-Chattogram route, the fare for a 51-seat bus is set at Tk 704, while a 40-seat bus will charge Tk 552.
Similarly, on routes like Dhaka (Sayedabad)-Cox’s Bazar, Dhaka (Gabtoli)-Panchagarh, Dhaka (Gabtoli)-Rangpur, Dhaka (Gabtoli)-Dinajpur, Dhaka (Mohakhali)-Mymensingh, Dhaka (Mohakhali)-Jamalpur, and Dhaka (Mohakhali)-Kishoreganj, specific fare rates have been determined for both 51-seat and 40-seat buses.
In response to the government’s fuel price adjustment in April, transport fares were revised accordingly. In Dhaka and Chattogram metropolitan areas, the fare per kilometer for 52-seat buses increased from Tk 2.42 to Tk 2.53. For inter-district services, the fare rose from Tk 2.12 to Tk 2.23 per kilometer, and in the DTCA area, minibus fare went up from Tk 2.32 to Tk 2.43 per kilometer.
It’s important to note that the government does not set fares for air-conditioned (AC) buses, leaving pricing decisions for such services to transport operators and market competition on specific routes.
