Bangladesh extended their lead to over 150 runs despite an initial setback on the second day of the second Test against Pakistan at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The home team closed the day at 110 for three, increasing their lead to 156 runs with three days left in the game. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto was at the crease with 13 runs as Bangladesh lost Tanzid Tamim (4), Mahmudul Hasan Joy (52), and Mominul Haque (30).
Pakistan was bowled out for 232 in the first innings, giving Bangladesh a 46-run lead. Bangladesh lost opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim early in their second innings to a delivery from pacer Khurram Shahzad. Despite the early wicket, Mahmudul Hasan Joy’s brisk 52 and Mominul Haque’s contributions helped Bangladesh increase their lead to 137 runs before the day’s end.
In the morning session, pacer Taskin Ahmed’s early strikes and key wickets from Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nahid Rana, and Taijul Islam limited Pakistan to 232. Sajid Khan’s aggressive 38-run knock provided some resistance but wasn’t enough to prevent Bangladesh from gaining the upper hand.
During the second session, Pakistan struggled to build momentum, ending the day at 206 for 8, still trailing by 72 runs. Nahid Rana and Taijul Islam picked up crucial wickets after lunch, putting Pakistan under pressure. Babar Azam’s solid 68-run innings was cut short by Nahid, while Taijul dismissed Salman Agha and Mohammad Rizwan in quick succession.
Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s early breakthroughs set the tone for Bangladesh’s dominance on the second morning of the Test match. Pakistan, starting the day at 21 without loss, lost early wickets to Taskin’s sharp bowling. Miraz further dented Pakistan’s progress by breaking key partnerships, ensuring Bangladesh’s control over the game.
Bangladesh had earlier scored 278 in their first innings, with Litton Das playing a crucial role with a century.
