-

Police apprehended a prime suspect linked to the brutal killing of a woman and her granddaughter in a village in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna. The suspect, identified as Md Shariful Islam, a local resident, was taken into custody by Md Rashidul Hasan, the officer-in-charge of Pabna Detective Branch (DB) of police. Authorities have gathered crucial clues related to the incident and are actively pursuing other individuals involved in the crime, as stated by the DB official. Further details will be disclosed during an upcoming press conference.

The tragic event unfolded on Friday night in Bhabanipur Uttarpara village, where Sufia Begum’s lifeless body was discovered in her courtyard the next morning, stained with blood. Concurrently, the granddaughter, Jamila, went missing, prompting locals to conduct a search that led to the discovery of her body in a nearby mustard field. Shirina, Jamila’s mother, spoke to reporters, alleging that a local young man had been persistently following her daughter. She emphasized that the attackers struck when her husband was away in Dhaka and urged authorities to bring those responsible to justice.

Ishwardi Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Md Mominuzzaman, revealed that the assailants broke into the residence late at night, fatally attacking the elderly woman before abducting the granddaughter. Morjina Khatun, Sufia Begum’s daughter, lodged a formal complaint on the same night of the incident. The case has since been transferred to the DB, with coordinated efforts from various agencies underway to apprehend all culprits involved, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Pronob Kumar.

Dr. Sharmin Sobnom, a forensic physician at Pabna Medical College and Hospital, disclosed that samples have been collected for chemical analysis. She refrained from speculating on potential sexual assault until the conclusive report is prepared.
