“Myanmar and Arakan Army Extend Wishes to Bangladesh FM”

-

Myanmar’s Foreign Minister, Than Swe, has extended congratulations to the newly appointed Foreign Minister of Bangladesh, Dr. Khalilur Rahman. Swe emphasized a strong commitment to boosting bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation between Naypyidaw and Dhaka. In a significant development, Twan Mrat Naing, the Chairman of the United League of Arakan and head of the Arakan Army, also conveyed his best wishes to the Bangladesh Foreign Minister.

Naing expressed optimism about Rahman’s new role, urging continued collaboration to find practical and sustainable solutions. He highlighted the opportunity to forge a fresh bond of friendship between Bangladesh and Arakan. The gestures from Myanmar and the ULA illustrate a willingness to engage with the new Bangladesh government in addressing the Rohingya crisis.

Foreign Minister Rahman confirmed ongoing communication between the Bangladesh government, Myanmar authorities, and the Arakan Army on this matter. A senior official from the foreign ministry noted that the messages from Myanmar and the Arakan Army underscore a positive shift in promoting a peaceful resolution to the Rohingya issue through dialogue.

Bangladesh has been actively involving other key nations and the United Nations in pursuing an early, lasting, and peaceful resolution to the longstanding Rohingya crisis. The Rohingya community has expressed their desire to return to their ancestral homes in Rakhine State, Myanmar, at various forums, including the Cox’s Bazar dialogue and the UN General Assembly session.

Recognizing the significance of including the Rohingya community’s voices in shaping their future, the international community supports their right to return to Myanmar and rebuild their lives there.
