Palestinians in Gaza woke up to heavy rainfall that inundated their makeshift shelters as they endure the winter season without adequate protection. The region experienced a winter storm from late Monday into yesterday, marking the first storm since the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan. Gaza’s civil defence units received numerous distress calls overnight due to the inclement weather.
In the midst of dealing with the aftermath of the heavy rains, Israeli forces continued to carry out fatal attacks on Palestinians in Gaza, violating the ceasefire agreement made with Hamas in October. According to reports from Al Jazeera online, two individuals, including a young boy, were killed by the Israeli military in the Beit Lahiya area in northern Gaza.
Emergency response teams in Gaza sprang into action to assist several families whose shelters were flooded in the al-Mawasi camp located west of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. The Remal neighborhood and the port area to the west of Gaza City were severely affected by the storm, with social media videos showing flooded tents and residents struggling to mitigate further damage.
The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that over 600 Palestinians have lost their lives in Israeli attacks since the ceasefire brokered by the United States came into effect.
