Garment exports from Bangladesh to the European Union (EU) experienced a 19.33% year-on-year decrease to €6.09 billion during the January-April 2026 period, attributed to heightened global competition and reduced demand. According to data from Eurostat, the EU’s total apparel imports from worldwide sources also declined by 10.42% year-on-year to €27.77 billion within the same four-month timeframe.
This decrease can be attributed to a 5.48% reduction in import volume to 1,428.88 million kg, coupled with a 5.22% decline in the average unit price to €19.44 per kg from €20.51 per kg. This suggests that both softened demand and pricing pressures played equitable roles in the overall downturn.
Notably, China experienced the smallest decline in import value, with exports decreasing by 4.70% year-on-year to €7.95 billion in the January-April 2026 period, as per the Eurostat figures. During the same period, Turkey’s exports dropped by 16.60% year-on-year to €2.42 billion, India saw a 12.10% decline to €1.64 billion, and Vietnam experienced a 0.70% decrease to €1.37 billion based on the Eurostat data.
