Bangladesh’s Litton Das Urges Team to Play Freely

-

Bangladesh’s T20 captain Litton Das adopted a composed approach as he looked forward to the team’s return to T20 internationals, urging his squad to play freely without the weight of past disappointments, particularly missing out on the last ICC T20 World Cup.

In a recent media briefing before the opening match on Monday, Litton emphasized the importance of focusing on rebuilding momentum and self-belief in the immediate term, even though the ultimate target is the 2028 global event. The upcoming series against New Zealand in Chattogram marks the starting point for this process.

The Bangladesh team comes into the series with a mixed recent performance record. While they clinched comprehensive series victories against Afghanistan (3-0 in the UAE) and Ireland (2-1 at home), they faced a setback with a 3-0 defeat to the West Indies.

Addressing persistent concerns surrounding the batting lineup, Litton opted not to spotlight individual players or set immediate performance expectations. “We are returning to T20 format after a significant break. At the beginning, we aim to alleviate any unnecessary pressure on the players,” he commented.

He highlighted the packed schedule ahead as an opportunity rather than a hurdle. With upcoming series against Australia and India later in the year, Bangladesh is slated to play nine T20Is against top-tier opponents in quick succession. Litton expressed optimism that these challenging fixtures will pave the way for smoother contests in the future.

Looking towards the future, Litton stressed that groundwork for the 2028 T20 World Cup is already in progress, building upon the foundation laid before the 2026 edition in India, which Bangladesh missed out on. “Our primary focus is on the 2028 World Cup, which will not be hosted in Asia. Therefore, our planning will reflect this,” he explained.

When asked about overcoming the disappointment of the past and shifting focus, the captain affirmed a positive change in mindset among the team members. “I believe we have indeed moved forward. Following that phase, we participated in a tournament where players displayed good cricket. Every international match holds immense significance, and I trust that our players will approach each game with the necessary winning mentality for representing Bangladesh,” Litton concluded.
