“Bangladesh Minister Urges Efficient Fuel Use Amid Supply Reassurance”

-

The Minister of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, has encouraged the public to use fuel efficiently, emphasizing that the government is currently providing 25% more fuel than the previous year. Addressing the media today, Minister Tuku reassured citizens by stating, “I urge everyone not to panic. There is an ample supply of fuel, and we are ensuring continuous distribution.”

He elaborated that Bangladesh is procuring fuel from the spot market at increased prices but maintaining domestic prices to support the public. Minister Tuku emphasized the importance of public cooperation for the smooth functioning of the system, urging individuals to be patient, use fuel judiciously, and avoid hoarding to prevent shortages.

Dismissing reports of widespread pump closures as alarmist, Tuku confirmed that while a few petrol stations temporarily shut down in recent days, they have since reopened. He highlighted the fluctuating stock levels due to ongoing supply and assured the public that distribution efforts are ongoing.

Acknowledging the global challenges in fuel importation via the Strait of Hormuz, the minister mentioned the shared difficulties faced by all nations. Despite these challenges, he affirmed that the government has not raised fuel prices and continues to provide subsidies for fuel supply. Minister Tuku advised vehicle owners to adopt fuel-efficient practices given the current circumstances.
