Winona Ryder is confirmed to make a special appearance in Season 3 of the popular Netflix series “Wednesday,” reuniting with Jenna Ortega and director Tim Burton. This casting news brings together the trio from the iconic film “Beetlejuice,” where Ortega played Ryder’s on-screen daughter under Burton’s direction. Burton, a close collaborator with Ryder, continues to helm “Wednesday” as both director and executive producer, with series creators Al Gough and Miles Millar having previously worked on “Beetlejuice.”
Burton expressed his excitement about having Ryder on board for the show, praising her as a cherished friend who seamlessly fits into the world of “Wednesday.” While Ryder’s role in the upcoming season is shrouded in secrecy, her participation marks a swift return to Netflix following her role in the final season of “Stranger Things.”
Gough and Millar commended Ryder’s legacy of portraying unconventional characters and highlighted her successful partnership with Burton, shaping some of cinema’s most memorable roles. They eagerly welcomed her to Nevermore Academy, the setting of the series. Ryder joins the Season 3 cast, which also includes Eva Green playing Ophelia, Morticia Addams’ sister.
A two-time Oscar nominee for “The Age of Innocence” and “Little Women,” Ryder previously collaborated with Burton on “Edward Scissorhands” and “Frankenweenie.” Her television work includes “The Plot Against America” and “Show Me a Hero.” “Wednesday,” based on characters by Charles Addams, stars Jenna Ortega in the lead role, supported by Emma Myers, Hunter Doohan, Joy Sunday, and others. Produced by MGM Television, the show’s executive producers are Gough, Millar, and Burton.
The second season of “Wednesday” debuted in two parts in August and September 2025, becoming one of Netflix’s most-watched English-language series. The first season remains Netflix’s highest-viewed English-language TV season.
