New Zealand batter Will Young expressed satisfaction with the outfield conditions at Chattogram’s Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium. Noting the dry surface and patchy grass, Young mentioned minor cuts on his arms and legs but was unconcerned about player safety on the fast outfield. The impact of water shortages on the venue was highlighted by curator Zahid Reza Babu, who disclosed ongoing challenges with water supply, with the city facing shortages affecting 40% of residents.
Despite a lack of rainfall and watering the ground on April 9, water supply issues persisted due to the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions. While the outfield may seem poor from a distance, ground staff believe it is not as severe up close, emphasizing the need for about two lakh litres of water daily for maintenance. Efforts to address the water supply problem were hindered in the past but are now being implemented under the current ad hoc committee, with plans for a water purification plant and deep tube well behind the VIP stand.
The water purification plant is expected to alleviate the water shortage, potentially providing two lakh litres daily, in combination with the WASA supply. As the day progressed, the outfield was watered and improved ahead of the upcoming third ODI, with optimism that the water treatment plant will resolve many ongoing issues at the stadium.
