As some individuals have finalized their Eid holiday arrangements, others are still organizing last-minute day trips and quick escapes from the city. Fortunately, our country offers a plethora of unexplored destinations waiting to be discovered. Below, we highlight some noteworthy places that are ideal for planning day-long excursions.

It is common to question why a particular destination consistently appears in various travel lists. To truly comprehend the allure of a place, one must experience it firsthand. Among the captivating historical sites in Bangladesh, Panam Nagar in Sonargaon, Narayanganj, stands out as a must-visit location.

Panam City showcases a row of deteriorating buildings along a single street, offering a glimpse into its past as a bustling trading hub in the 19th century. The preserved colonial architecture remains intact, providing visitors with a window into the past.

Adjacent to Panam Nagar is the Sonargaon Folk Arts and Crafts Foundation, housing a museum and the restored mansion, “Baro Sarder Bari,” once owned by a prosperous merchant.

Traveling from Dhaka to Sonargaon typically takes 1-2 hours, with available buses for transportation.

Moinot Ghat, a picturesque destination near Dhaka in Dohar Upazila, offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy boat rides on the scenic river. Guests can savor local hilsa fry, freshly caught from the Padma River. The riverbank provides a stunning view, especially during sunset.

The journey from Dhaka to Moinot Ghat is approximately 2 hours, subject to traffic conditions. Local bus services are accessible for the trip.

In the Muktagacha upazila of Mymensingh, the Muktagacha Zamindar Bari, an 18th-century mansion constructed for the region’s zamindars, stands as a remarkable historic site. The mansion, belonging to the Acharya Chowdhury family, exemplifies a blend of colonial and traditional architectural styles.

Traveling from Dhaka to Muktagacha takes about 3-4 hours, with transportation options including buses and trains. Nearby, a sweet shop offers the renowned traditional sweet “Muktagachar Monda,” a must-try delicacy for visitors.

The China Clay Hills in Bijoypur, Durgapur Upazila of Netrokona, present a natural marvel for nature enthusiasts. These white clay hills, rich in Kaolin (China Clay), enclose a turquoise lake with high mineral content, lending it a unique color. Adjacent to the hills flows the Someshwari River, providing a serene boating experience.

The journey from Dhaka to the China Clay Hills takes about 5-6.5 hours, necessitating an early start. Bus services to Netrokona are available for transportation.

The nearest destination, Purbachal Balu River, situated at the Dhaka-Narayanganj border, offers a tranquil setting with a sandy river flowing through it. Boat rides are available during high water levels, providing a scenic view of the sunset from the riverbank.

Purbachal is renowned for its bustling Nila Market, a hub for tourists even after dark. Visitors can relish a variety of local sweets, tea stalls, and the popular “duck meat curry” at Nila Market.

The journey from Dhaka to Purbachal Balu River is approximately 1 hour, with convenient public transport options. For impromptu day trips and those seeking a brief escape, this destination is perfect for a quick getaway.

Whether you seek a day-long Eid vacation, a break from work pressures, or a fun outing with loved ones, a swift retreat to the outskirts of the bustling Dhaka city is always a refreshing choice. The surrounding locations offer enticing day trip options for those seeking a brief respite.
