In February, a recent report from Crunchbase revealed that the majority of global venture capital investment was attributed to artificial intelligence (AI) companies, with three firms leading the way. The total venture funding for startups worldwide reached $189 billion last month, a significant increase from January. Notably, AI-focused companies received $171 billion, accounting for approximately 90% of the total investment.
The report highlighted three major funding rounds that garnered substantial capital. OpenAI secured $110 billion in funding, marking one of the largest private fundraising rounds and valuing the company at $730 billion. Anthropic, a competitor of OpenAI, raised $30 billion in a Series G round with a valuation of $380 billion. Waymo, the self-driving technology subsidiary of Alphabet, received $16 billion at a valuation of $126 billion.
These three companies collectively raised 83% of the venture capital dollars in February. Their combined funding of $156 billion in a single month represents around one-third of the total venture capital market investment in 2025, as reported by Crunchbase data.
