The film industry in the country experiences a surge in activity during the two annual Eid festivals. While interest in cinema may remain low throughout the year, filmmakers eagerly vie for Eid release slots, a trend that has persisted for years. Last year, a total of 12 films were released during both Eids, but this year’s Eid-ul-Fitr alone may witness a record-breaking 16 film releases. Despite Ramadan being underway, most of these films are yet to kick off their promotional campaigns.
Once again, Shakib Khan takes center stage in Eid conversations as he gears up to portray a 1990s gangster in the film “Prince: Once Upon a Time in Dhaka,” helmed by director Abu Hayat Mahmud. The film stars Tasnia Farin from Bangladesh and Jyotirmoyee Kundu from West Bengal alongside him. Shooting is currently ongoing in India, and despite production still in progress, the director has announced an Eid launch.
Adding to the lineup is Siam Ahmed with “Rakkhosh,” directed by Mehedi Hasan Hridoy, featuring Sushmita Chatterjee. The filming locations for this movie include Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
Several other titles have also been announced for Eid release, including “Bonolota Express” by Tanim Noor, “Pinik” by Zahid Jewel, “Bonolota Sen” by Masud Hasan Ujjal, “Rongbazar” by Rashid Polash, “Tribunal” by Raihan Khan, “Hangor” by Tanmoy Surya, “Malik” by Saif Chandan, “Durbar” by Kamrul Hasan Fuad, “Cut Piece” by Iffat Jahan Momo, “Dodor Golpo” by Reza Ghatak, “Toshnosh” by Badiul Alam Khokon, and “Officer” starring Mahi. There are also rumors circulating about the potential Eid release of Raihan Rafi’s “Pressure Cooker.”
With the ongoing issue of limited cinema hall availability, it remains uncertain how many of these films will secure a theatrical release in the end.
