“Bangladesh Cricket Board to Carry On Despite Director Resignations”

-

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) vice-president Faruque Ahmed assured that the board will continue its operations despite the recent resignations of two directors amidst an ongoing crisis within the leadership spearheaded by Aminul Islam Bulbul.

BCB is currently grappling with turmoil as the National Sports Council has initiated an investigation committee to probe alleged irregularities during the last BCB elections held in October 2025.

The departures of directors Ishtiaque Sadeque and Amzad Hussain have sparked worries about potential organizational stagnation and internal conflicts.

Faruque emphasized that BCB will persist in its daily functions and appeared unfazed by the resignations.

Following the Independence Day Exhibition match at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Faruque expressed, “I view this as a personal decision for each individual. The resignation letters we received indicated purely personal motives. Should someone consider it a personal matter, then I, too, could have personal grounds to step down in the future.”

“Hence, I do not perceive this as a significant setback for the board. Despite the regrettable departures, we have 25 directors. Ideally, it would be preferable if all remained, but even if some choose to exit, I believe the board will maintain its functionality and responsibilities,” he elaborated.

Furthermore, Faruque recognized the noteworthy contributions of former captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza to Bangladesh cricket and hinted that, pending no legal impediments, Mashrafe could potentially join the board as a director.

Mashrafe has been absent from cricketing activities since the change in government in August 2024, with his last appearance in the Dhaka Premier League dating back to April 2024.

In light of the two vacant BCB director positions, Faruque responded to queries regarding Mashrafe’s potential involvement as a director.

“I am not privy to any legal issues concerning Mashrafe, but his leadership legacy is widely recognized. While opinions may vary, his pivotal role in Bangladesh cricket remains undisputed. The progress witnessed by the ODI team during his captaincy period was significantly influenced by his efforts in unifying the team. Therefore, assuming no legal complications arise, he could indeed join the board,” Faruque concluded.
