The current interim government, led by Prof Muhammad Yunus, has officially disbanded as per a gazette notification issued by the Cabinet Division. This signals the conclusion of the Advisory Council’s mandate during the transitional phase. Today’s notification, released under Clause (3) of article 56 of the constitution, designates Tarique Rahman as the prime minister. The appointment recognizes Rahman as an MP who holds the majority’s confidence in parliament and grants approval for the establishment of a new government under his leadership. The notification clearly states that the Advisory Council of the preceding interim government dissolves with the formation of the new administration. This gazette notification formalizes the transfer of executive power in conjunction with the formation of the new cabinet under the prime minister. An official from the Cabinet Division, speaking on the condition of anonymity to The Daily Star, explained that such notifications are standard constitutional procedures. Typically, the previous government is deemed dissolved once the new cabinet is sworn in. However, a separate gazette notification is necessary to officially document the dissolution, a responsibility that has now been fulfilled.
