“New Crop Insurance Initiative to Shield Farmers”

-

Agriculture Minister Mohammed Amin Ur Rashid has unveiled a new initiative to introduce crop insurance aimed at safeguarding farmers from losses incurred due to natural disasters. This move, announced during a rice distribution event at Shyampur High School in Adarsha Sadar upazila of Cumilla, ensures that farmers will be compensated in case their crops suffer damages from events like floods or other disasters, alleviating their financial burdens.

Minister Rashid emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promises made before the elections, with a focus on translating them into tangible outcomes since Prime Minister Tarique Rahman took office. Various ongoing initiatives such as family cards, farmer cards, and providing allowances to imams and muezzins are already in place, showcasing the government’s efforts to support different segments of society.

Furthermore, he underscored the importance of agriculture as a cornerstone of the national economy, highlighting the government’s dedication to ensuring the financial stability of farmers. In addition to the crop insurance scheme, the government is actively working on enhancing farmers’ financial capabilities through incentives, support programs, and easier access to agricultural loans.

The introduction of crop insurance, in conjunction with existing support measures, is poised to significantly reduce farmers’ susceptibility to natural calamities, providing them with a safety net during challenging times. Minister Rashid also reassured the populace that the country maintains an ample food reserve to meet future demands, reaffirming the government’s commitment to preventing any food shortages among its citizens.

Following the event organized collaboratively by the upazila administration and the upazila food controller’s office, a total of 1,879 beneficiaries in Amratali union each received 30 kg of rice under the food-friendly program, ensuring assistance reaches those in need.
