Shafiqur Rahman, the leader of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, assured the public on Monday that his party would responsibly serve as the opposition in parliament by collaborating with the government on national matters and safeguarding public interests.
During a gathering with the party’s newly elected MPs at Al-Falah auditorium in Moghbazar, Dhaka, Shafiqur Rahman highlighted the need to rejuvenate weakened state institutions through genuine government efforts.
He stressed the significance of upholding democratic principles and advocated for an environment in parliament where opposition members can freely express their views and contribute constructively to national governance.
Shafiqur Rahman underscored the necessity of enhancing law enforcement, restoring social order, safeguarding citizens’ rights, and dismantling harmful syndicates that impact people’s lives.
In remembrance of the casualties and casualties of the July Uprising, he warned against forgetting the circumstances that led to those events, as history could repeat itself.
Reflecting on Bangladesh’s political past, including significant events like those in 1947, the 1970 election, and the Liberation War, he cautioned that past failures in governance had resulted in division and discord.
Shafiqur Rahman urged both the government and the opposition to act responsibly to prevent the recurrence of past mistakes, emphasizing that a collective commitment to sincerity could promote institutional stability in a democracy.
Expressing gratitude to voters and supporters, he reiterated Jamaat’s dedication to fulfilling its pledges regardless of election outcomes.
In a social media post following the meeting, he anticipated a new chapter in parliamentary politics and commended the public for their participation in the election, signaling the start of efforts to reclaim the rights of the people.
