Bangladeshi Cattle Trader Shot Dead at Indian Border

-

An individual identified as Sabuj Mia, a 30-year-old cattle trader from the Panchbhandar area in Jagatber union of Lalmonirhat’s Patgram upazila, was allegedly fatally shot by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members near the Shamshernagar border early today.

After the shooting occurred at approximately 4:00 am, the body was reportedly taken by BSF personnel, as confirmed by Subedar Kamal Uddin, the company commander of the 61 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Teesta Battalion’s Shamshernagar Camp.

In an attempt to retrieve the body, BGB has initiated communication by sending a formal letter to the relevant BSF camp to arrange a flag meeting.

According to reports from BGB officials and locals, a group of 8–10 Bangladeshi individuals crossed into Indian territory unlawfully early in the morning to bring cattle. During this operation, members of a patrol team from the BSF’s Chenakata camp allegedly opened fire on them. Sabuj sustained a fatal gunshot wound while the others managed to escape back to Bangladesh swiftly.

Kamal Uddin, the BGB Company Commander, stated, “Efforts are being made to repatriate the deceased individual’s body, which is expected to be facilitated through a flag meeting with the BSF.”

“Following this incident, heightened BGB patrols have been implemented along the border area,” he further noted.
