Google has introduced a new functionality on its Drive cloud storage platform utilizing its Gemini AI technology to automatically generate summaries of folder contents. This enhancement, an advancement from the previous ‘nudges’ feature, will present key insights at the top of a folder’s interface. Users will benefit from a brief overview of the files contained within the folder without the necessity of opening each file individually. To access more detailed information, users can select the ‘Explore with Gemini’ option to receive a comprehensive summary or ask additional questions in a side panel.
At present, this feature is accessible only in English and is being gradually launched to Google Workspace customers subscribed to Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus plans, as well as Google One AI Premium and Google AI Pro for Education users.
Administrators can manage this feature through the default personalization setting for intelligent features in the Admin console. For individual users, the feature will be enabled by default if smart features are activated. Users have the option to deactivate it for a specific folder by collapsing the ‘insights by Gemini’ section or by disabling smart features entirely.
The deployment has initiated for Rapid Release domains, while domains following a Scheduled Release timeline can expect the extended rollout to commence on December 9, 2025.
