Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called on former U.S. President Donald Trump to mediate peace in Ukraine similar to his efforts in the Middle East during a recent phone conversation. Zelensky emphasized that if Trump could successfully halt one conflict, it could pave the way for resolving others. This request followed Russia’s recent attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, resulting in power outages in Kyiv and nine other regions.
Global diplomatic initiatives to end Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine have faced challenges, with attention diverted to the conflict between Israel and Hamas. Despite Trump’s previous meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in August, no peace agreement was reached. Zelensky commended Trump’s role in facilitating a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas and highlighted the potential for similar interventions in other conflicts, including the one with Russia.
In a statement on Facebook, Zelensky expressed satisfaction with the positive and productive phone call with Trump, praising the former president’s ceasefire initiative in the Middle East. He stressed the possibility of halting the Russian conflict through diplomatic negotiations, urging Trump to exert pressure on Russia in this regard. Following a contentious televised encounter at the White House in February, the relationship between the two leaders has significantly improved.
