UN Refugee Agency Cuts 5,000 Jobs Amid Aid Cuts

The head of the United Nations refugee agency announced on Monday that close to 5,000 positions have been eliminated this year due to significant reductions in global aid support. Filippo Grandi, addressing the agency’s yearly executive committee gathering, highlighted that “Nearly 5,000 UNHCR staff members have been laid off in the current year,” emphasizing that this amounts to over a quarter of the total workforce.
