“Ubisoft Axes Prince of Persia Remake and Five Other Games”

-

Ubisoft has axed six video games, including the highly awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, in a significant corporate reorganization. The French game developer, renowned for titles like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, revealed plans to shut down multiple studios and push back seven other game releases in a recent announcement. While the names of the other cancelled projects were not disclosed, Ubisoft mentioned they encompass four undisclosed endeavors – three stemming from new intellectual property – and a mobile gaming venture.

In a move to amplify its focus on top-performing franchises, Ubisoft’s subsidiary, Vantage Studios, established after a financial injection from Chinese firm Tencent, will now prioritize transforming Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Rainbow Six into what the company terms “annual billion-dollar brands.” Initially set for a January 2021 debut, the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake was slated for launch by March 2026, based on a prior Ubisoft declaration. The original Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, a revered gaming classic, first hit the market in 2003.
