President Donald Trump announced on Thursday that his administration intends to implement a permanent halt on migration from “Third World countries” in order to allow the US system to recuperate. Trump did not specify the countries affected or elaborate on the term “permanently pause.” This plan will also encompass cases approved during former president Joe Biden’s tenure.
In a statement on his social media platform, Truth Social, Trump stated, “I will permanently halt migration from all Third World countries to enable the US system to fully recover, end all of the millions of Biden’s illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and expel individuals who do not contribute positively to the United States.”
Additionally, Trump mentioned the discontinuation of federal benefits and subsidies for “non-citizens” and vowed to revoke the citizenship of migrants who disrupt domestic peace, while deporting any foreign national considered a burden on public resources, a security threat, or incompatible with Western values.
Requests for comments from the White House and US Citizenship and Immigration Services went unanswered immediately.
Trump’s announcement came after a National Guard member was fatally shot near the White House in what investigators described as an ambush by an Afghan national. Department of Homeland Security officials confirmed that Trump had directed a review of asylum cases approved during Biden’s administration and Green Cards issued to nationals of 19 countries.
According to a US government document obtained by Reuters, the alleged shooter had been granted asylum earlier in the year under Trump’s administration. US Citizenship and Immigration Services has indefinitely suspended all immigration requests involving Afghan nationals.
Trump emphasized, “These objectives will be pursued to achieve a significant reduction in illegal and disruptive populations.”
